Two kidsActing Students on Broadway! Print E-mail

David Bologna was nominated for a 2009 Tony Award for playing Michael in Billy Elliot in which he opened in the fall of 2008 on Broadway!  According to the Gotham Gal Blog, "Michael, who is Billy's pal, was played by David Bologna last night.  He honestly stole the show.  He does a scene with Billy called Expressing Yourself which I thought was the best scene in the entire play." (http://www.gothamgal.com/gotham_gal/2008/10/billy-elliot.html)

David has recently been in 7 musicals with kidsActing.

Barrett Davis plays Neleus in Mary Poppins on Broadway. Barrett spent 8 years at kidsActing and later graduated from Carnegie Mellon.  Barrett came to us timid about his acting and singing, and ended up winning the B. Iden Payne award for Best Youth Performer in his role in the kidsActing original musical The Emperor’s New Shows.

And in their time with kidsActing, each boy played Inky Squid in Goldie, a fish story, and the Emcee in Cabaret!  Hmmm….

Congratulations to Barrett and David!

Taking "let's play pretend" to the next level, KA puts on impressive, remarkably talented renditions of popular musicals every summer. The talented staff draws out so much spirit, confidence, and stellar performances to match shining smiles of these little thespians-in-training at every curtain call. Fun for all ages and experience levels. The kind of leg-breaking parents can dig.

Here's what Austin has to say about us...

"Every summer in Austin a troop of child actors, singers and dancers attracts a lot of attention. The kidsActing productions are known for their high production values and their music."

--KXAN-TV

"Dede Clark is one of the most driven and energetic developers of the next generation of musical theatre stars. Clark runs kidsActing, a private performing arts school for youngsters that not only provides lessons for its students but unique opportunities for them to display their talents for the community."

--Robert Faires and Adrienne Martini, The Austin Chronicle

"(kidsActing) brings together a diverse group of kids and young adults at various levels of theatrical development and gives each performer (and the backstage personnel) solid stage opportunities."

--Jamie Smith, Austin American Statesman

"Most parents would like to alleviate the fear of public speaking in their children and a local business is offering plenty of help. Parents can send their kids to weekly kidsActing classes and summer camps. There the children gain experience in performing songs, skits and plays. The kids have fun and any trepidation they have about speaking out and performing in front of groups is eradicated as a side effect."

--Cheryl Morgan, Lake Travis View

"Dede is my mentor, kidsActing was my springboard."

--Cori Stern, Director of Development, Sibon Entertainment and The Fox Family Channel

"... loads of talented, humorously-costumed and well-directed kids..."

--Jerry Conn, Westlake Picayune

"Thank you for the meeting. It made a huge difference. (Our child) came out of class eager and happy. His impulsiveness and mood swings are not understood by many. Your use of words were such a gift to our son."

--Letter from a kidsActing parent (names withheld to protect privacy)

"My son studied at kidsActing for several years. Now he's at Juilliard. What more can I say?"

--Carolina Sanders, former kidsActing Mom

"After four years of kidsActing, my daughter auditioned for admission to the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts at NYU in Manhattan. She was in the 15% of applicants accepted. After sitting in on upper and lower level theatre classes there, we came to the conclusion that she had ALREADY received the kind of conservatory training that they offer... she got it at kidsActing! Now she is a Freshman at Wellesley, studying theatre and directing from a literary perspective."

--Amanda Evans, a happy kidsActing Mom

"kidsActing took a child baffled by the changes of Jr. High and turned him into a confident, happy, successful young man--the winner of the Best Actor B. Iden Payne award (in a kidsActing production). His life was changed forever by joining kidsActing. Years of friendship, training, love, guidance and focus--all began and will last because of this experience. Where do you begin when your child has a dream? You begin here--kidsActing."

--Laurie Davis, (Barrett's Mom)
