CSTEE: Into the Woods
CSTEE's Fiddler on the Roof
The very definition of a Broadway classic, this timeless and always relevant musical chronicles the struggles, triumphs and heartbreaks of Tevye the Dairyman and his family as they deal with life, love, and the encroaching of Imperial Russian authority on their small Jewish community, Anatevka. There are lots of strong, memorable characters for males and females, including Tevye, his indomitable wife Golde; their five irrepressible daughters including Tzeitel, Hodel and Chava, whose suitors wish to marry them: Motel the tailor, Perchik the student, and Fyedka the Russian. There are so many other great characters like Yente the matchmaker, Fruma-Sarah, Grandma Tzeitel, and Lazar Wolf.
The joy of these characters shines through in some of the best songs and dances ever created for stage, including “Matchmaker”, “If I Were a Rich Man”, “To Life”, “Miracle of Miracles”, “Sunrise, Sunset”, and many more classics! Exploring the importance of tolerance and the struggle against oppression, this musical is full of opportunities for great singing, fantastic dancing, and some of the funniest characters in musical theatre! Come join us, and find out why, with or without “Tradition” every one of us is a “fiddler on the roof”!

WHAT WILL YOU DO THIS YEAR?
The World Gave us Lemons… so we are making lemonade, just for you!
The Elite Conservatory
Over the years folks have mentioned that while they completely LOVE doing the shows, occasionally they want more instruction in technique. So because you asked for it, we have created The Elite Conservatory for you. For the first six weeks of CSTEE this year, you will get in depth training in dance, acting, speaking, movement and more, plus exciting master classes! You will also get to try out your audition song and get feedback, before your actual audition for roles in Fiddler on the Roof. These will be like beginning college courses, exposing you to lots of new, important material to help you be a better performer. The Elite Conservatory begins Tuesday, September 15th.
Your year will be longer because your shows will take place AFTER spring break this year. As we have to start virtually and we want to have live performances, we felt scheduling the shows later would be a good idea. Plus it gives us the opportunity to have the Elite Conservatory! During our virtual time, we will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5-7pm, Saturdays 1:30-3:30, plus some Saturdays you may have a second session later in the day. While working virtually, students will be broken out into smaller groups for specialized training. The Elite Conservatory includes:
Weekly dance lessons that will focus on the fundamentals of dance technique, body control, and across-the-floor progressions while also developing the skills to master dance auditions for both theatre performance and college programs. These classes will be assigned by dance experience and ability, previously determined by your participation in kidsActing programs or a video audition.
Weekly acting lessons in which you will study various acting techniques including Stanislavski (The Method), Chekhov, Meisner, and Le Coq. You will also learn exercises to improve your actor’s toolkit, including breath control, posture, enunciation and expression.
Learning to use rhetorical textual analysis to understand the “storytelling” involved in performing speeches and songs for performance and auditions.
Master Classes in accents, vocal technique, and auditioning
Auditions and rehearsals for Fiddler begin on November 1st. After auditions, we will cast, block, learn songs, choreography (yes, even the bottle dance!), and rehearse scenes. We will put our Elite Conservatory training to work, as together we create a magnificent production of Fiddler on the Roof!
